Report on the workshop on Post Self-Assessment Improvement Plan'

A day long workshop on 'Post self-Assessment Improvement Plan' organized by Institutional Quality Assurance cell (IQAC), Prime University was held on the 7th November 2018 at 10.00 am in the conference room of the University. Prof. Dr. M Abdus Sobhan, Vice Chancellor of the University chaired the session while Mir Shahabuddin, Chairman, Board of Trustees graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Md. Ashraf Ali, Senior Vice Chairman, Board of Trustees was there as the Special Guest. Moreover, Registrar of the University, M A Jabber, Prof. Dr. A.S.A Noor, Director of IQAC, Prime University, Md. Jahidul Azad, Additional Director of IQAC, Prime University, Prof. Dr. Jahangir Alam, Dean and Head, faculty of Business Studies and all members of Self-Assessment Committee of different departments were also present in the session. Mr. Jahidul Azad moderated the workshop sessions very effectively. Dr. Ahmed Tazmeen and Dr. Mahbub Ahsan Khan, Quality Assurance Specialists, Quality Assurance Unit (QAU), Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP), University Grants Commission (UGC) were the Keynote Speakers and facilitated the workshop.

Md. Jahidul Azad, Additional Director, IQAC, Prime University anchored the whole program and introduced the guest. The program started with the recitation from the Holy Quran by Md. Nazrul Islam, Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration. Then Prof. Dr. Abu Saleh Abdun Noor , Director , IQAC was requested to deliver his welcome speech.

In his speech Prof. Dr. Abu Saleh Abdun Noor, Director, IQAC welcomed the participants in the workshop and expressed his gratitude to the speakers. He mentioned that in this workshop we will learn how to write the improvement plan. He said that most of the peer reviewer's had a bad impression about Prime University but their impression has been totally changed after their visit. He thanked all the members of the Self-Assessment Committee for their tremendous work and that's why it has been possible for them to prepare Self-Assessment Report. He hoped that two speakers will guide properly SAC members to prepare the improvement plan so that our University can meet the challenges of 21st century which can lift it to a high standard University.

Honorable Registrar, M A Jabber, in his speech mentioned that after establishment the IQAC in Prime University many workshops and seminars were held in different times and he learned many things from these workshops and seminars. He also told that we have many things to do to improve the university. Self-Assessment committee members have got lot of support from the university authority to prepare SAR. He hopes that the facilitators will give their proper method to write the improvement plan for SA Committee members. He expects that according to the improvement plan authority will take initiative to improve the universities many sides.

Finally the chief guest Alhaj Mir Shahabuddin, Chairman, BOT, Prime University delivered his most important speech.

At the very beginning the Chief guest greeted all and told that the issue of IQAC or QAC is not a very old concept to us but this process is very old in this global. He told that Government should also introduce this process in primary school, high school level and finally in higher education. He thanked both the speakers Dr. Ahmed Tazmeen and Dr. Mahbub Ahsan khan for coming in this campus and giving valuable time to teach our SAC members for preparing the improvement plan. We know that there are many weaknesses in our University. We believe that we will be able to overcome those and develop ourselves in all respects step by step by the help of this improvement plan which will be implemented in coming 4 years.

After completion of the Chief Guest's speech there was a short tea break. After tea break, Dr. Ahmed Tazmeen, QA Specialist, UGC started his 1st session on Post Self-Assessment Improvement Plan. In his lecture he explained many topics on improvement plan.

After lunch another QA Specialist Dr. Mahbub Ahsan Khan started the 2nd session ot the workshop where he trained the participants by giving some problems to solve.

Workshop ended with Question and Answer session given by both speakers.

In concluding speech as chairperson, Prof. Dr. M Abdus Sobhan, Vice Chancellor, Prime University thanked both speakers for conducting the workshop. He also mentioned that our neighboring country India has already developed much in ICT sector. So we need to develop ourselves in this sector too. He concluded the workshop by giving thanks to all SAC members, IQAC office and specially the QA experts from UGC.

Institutional Quality Assurance Cell of Prime University organized a seminar on Good Governance

Good Governance

Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Prime University organized a seminar on "Good Governance" which was held on 26 July 2017 at 10:45 AM in the PU Conference Room. Prof Dr M Abdus Sobhan, Vice Chancellor of the university graced the session as the Chief Guest. Md Ashraf Ali, Senior Vice Chairman, BOT was the keynote speaker while Prof Dr A S A Noor, Director of IQAC chaired the session. Md Jahidul Azad, Additional Director of IQAC delivered the welcome speech. The seminar was anchored by G M Jewel Abedin, Administrative Officer of IQAC. During the discussion session, Prof Dr Abdur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Law, Prof Dr Jahangir Alam, Dean, Faculty of Business Studies, M A Jabber, Registrar and Md Nur Hossain Talukder, Controller of Examinations presented their knowledgeable speeches on good governance. The Senior Vice Chairman recited from the Holy Quran and declared the session open. Prof Rahman in his speech explained the importance of effective behavior towards staff through good governance. After that, Prof Dr Jahangir Alam said that rules of law, ownership and combined participation of all the members of the PU community can ensure good governance in the institution. Later, M A Jabber discussed on the said topic and explained that everyone has to be the part of this practice to achieve the ultimate goal and also accentuated on cleanliness. Besides, Nur Hossain Talukder, Controller of Examination, Prime University expressed his aspiration that employees will perform their duties to establish good governance in this University. The keynote speaker, Md Ashraf Ali presented the overall scenario of good governance. From his experience, he described how good governance can be learned and implemented in an organization to thrive as an organization. Prime University is one of the 69 universities that entered into the HEQEP (Higher Educational Quality Enhancement Project). He expressed his disappointment that quality is missing in a portion of education system nationwide and appreciated the initiatives of World Bank to enhance the quality of education through Government of Bangladesh. With this intent PU entered into the project and constituted Quality Assurance Committee (QAC). Further, he described that the activity of IQAC is to monitor the overall function of the university regarding assurance of quality education. He urged all the executives and staff to be more cautious in discharging their duties and responsibilities which will ensure good governance in the university. The chief guest, Prof Sobhan started his speech by expressing the importance of IQAC at Prime University. He also added that IQAC is the only way to prove that the university is imparting quality education to its students. He defined good governance as the optimum utilization of resources so that we can extract an excellent output from good governance. In his closing remark, he said faculty members are an integral part of good governance. Being meritorious is not enough rather faculty members need to make their students participatory. The chairperson of the seminar, Prof Dr Noor ended the session by extending his gratitude to all the participants especially Md Ashraf Ali for giving his resourceful speech as well as the organizer of the seminar.

A seminar entitled, Good Governance was organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Prime University in the room no. 805 on 11 July 2018 at 10:30 AM.

A seminar entitled, ‘Good Governance’ was organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Prime University in the room no. 805 on 11 July 2018 at 10:30 AM. Mir Shahabuddin, Chairman, Board of Trustees was the keynote speaker of the seminar. The Senior Vice-Chairman of BOT Md Ashraf Ali graced the session as the Chief Guest. Professor Dr M Abdus Sobhan, Vice Chancellor of the University chaired the program.

 

Professor Dr Abu Saleh Abdun Noor, Dean, Faculty of Engineering welcomed the guests and participants of the occasion through his speech of welcome.

 

The keynote speaker, Mir Shahabuddin presented the scenario of good governance at a glance over the globe, in different government and non-government institutions as well as educational sectors of the country and finally, in Prime University.  He inspired the faculty members to be more serious in their duties and responsibilities which will automatically turn positive to run good governance in the University.

 

The chief guest, Md Ashraf Ali in his speech highlighted the actual need to establish good governance in any institution or country. He urged the faculty members to give their best efforts to enhance the quality of the students so that at the end they not only become owner of a degree but also achieve true education and quality.

 

There was a long and lively question answer session where audiences participated spontaneously.

 

The Chairperson of the seminar, Professor Dr M Abdus Sobhan in his concluding speech defined good governance as management of resources in a very effective manner. He requested all to utilize all the resources in effective ways so that there comes an excellent output of good governance. He ended the seminar with expressing his gratitude to the keynote speaker, guests, audiences as well as the organizer of the seminar.

Director and Additional Director of IQAC participated in Overseas Training

Prof. Dr. A.S.A. Noor, Director of IQAC and Asst. Prof. Md. Jahidul Azad, Additional Director of IQAC along with 19 other participants from different public and private universities of the country participated in an Overseas Training entitled ‘Quality Assurance Training’ held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 7-10 January, 2018. The training program was organized by QAU, UGC. The Director and Additional Director of IQAC along with others participated training sessions as well as paid their visit to University of Malaya, Nottingham University Malaysia, Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation, University Putra Malaysia, Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and attended in a high profile meeting at Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia for understanding the quality assurance process of Malaysia.
