Seminar on 'Consumer Rights' Held in Prime University

A seminar on 'Consumer Rights' was held on the 23rd April 2017 at 03:00 pm in Prime University on the occasion of 'World Consumer Rights Day'. The program was jointly organized by the Centre for Research, HRD and Publications of the University and Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, the Ministry of Commerce, People's Republic of Bangladesh. The program was chaired by Prof. Dr. M Abdus Sobhan, Vice Chancellor, Prime University. Among others Md. Mamun Sobhan, Treasurer, Board of Trustees, Prime University Trust was present in the seminar. The Treasurer, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Dean, Faculty of Business Studies, Registrar and Heads of different departments of the University were also present in the seminar. The Registrar, M A Jabber delivered the welcome speech. The speaker, Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Director (Joint Secretary), Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, Ministry of Commerce, People's Republic of Bangladesh in his presentation discussed different aspects of consumer rights as per the consumer Right Act-2009 to protect the consumer rights in Bangladesh. He elicited the benefits of the act, procedure of complaints against dishonest sellers etc. He urged the audience to be aware of their rights as a consumer and encouraged them not to tolerate any dishonest action of a seller of any type of product during their purchase. The discussion was a lively one and the audience participated spontaneously in the question-answer session. The program ended with closing speech by the Chairperson of the program.
